Strong engagement with pioneers in eXtended Reality and virtual worlds

Strong engagement of GET Lab with pioneers in eXtended Reality and Virtual Worlds during the EuroXR 2025 conference, held September 3-5 in Winterthur, Switzerland.

Our coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Despina Michael-Grigoriou, served as the lead program chair of this international conference, which brought together leading researchers from around the globe alongside innovators from industry. This year, the Scientific Track of the conference, led by our coordinator, attracted the largest number of submissions in its history, while the event itself welcomed the highest number of participants since its establishment. The accepted and published papers from the track are available in the conference proceedings, with Despina Michael-Grigoriou serving as the first editor of the volume, published by Springer Nature.

The conference also featured a tribute session dedicated to internationally renowned pioneers in the field, Professor Nadia Magnenat-Thalmann and Professor Daniel Thalmann, in recognition of their extraordinary contributions to eXtended Reality. Assoc. Prof. Despina Michael-Grigoriou, who has had the privilege of collaborating with these groundbreaking scientists on several occasions, co-organized and co-chaired this special session.

GET Lab’s active participation in EuroXR 2025 was further highlighted by a paper presentation entitled “A Virtual Reality Stroop Art Exergame for Cognitive-Motor Rehabilitation in Chronic Stroke Survivors.” The presentation was delivered in a very well structured and articulated way, by our PhD student, Christos Hadjipanyi, as part of his doctoral research. The work was conducted under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Despina Michael-Grigoriou and our research affiliate, Domna Banakou, in collaboration with international colleagues from New York University Abu Dhabi and physiotherapist Demetris Sokratous from the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics.
